Three sites, one directory each

flux.vision, tobias.raayoni-last.com and randogoth.com. They were one site until
October 2026, serving four audiences from a single dated list, which is the only
format that can hold unrelated things at once.

flux.vision is recovered from the Wayback Machine, where it had sat since being
deleted in 2021: 90 articles, closed and maintained rather than updated.
tobias.raayoni-last.com is the professional record, 97 articles back to 1999.
randogoth.com is the technical work, 41 articles across six areas, served as an
ANSI bulletin board.

History starts here deliberately. The development history, the 266-row inventory
that records why each article went where it did, the Wayback pipelines, the
pruned articles, the source archives and the full-size images are kept beside
the repo rather than in it, so a clone is the web presence and not the argument
that produced it. REFACTOR.md is gitignored for the same reason. See README.md
for where that material lives, and keep it: the sort is not reproducible from
these three directories alone.

Each site documents itself in its own README, including the traps that cost time
and look like nothing when you get them wrong.

# sites
Three domains, one directory each, one audience each.
| Directory | Domain | Subject | Audience |
|---|---|---|---|
| `flux.vision/` | flux.vision | Kiritan Flux: media arts, VJ, performance, installations, 2003-2021 | festival and art world |
| `tobias.raayoni-last.com/` | tobias.raayoni-last.com | client work, portfolio, CV | clients, employers, galleries |
| `randogoth.com/` | randogoth.com | the technical work, six areas | devs, retro and small-net readers |
They were one site until October 2026. The split is the fix: four audiences were being handed one
page, and a page that serves four audiences collapses into the only format that can hold unrelated
things, which is a dated list.
`sublunar.space` is deliberately not here. It is a working blog with nine years and 440 commits of
its own voice, and it keeps its own repo.
## Building
All three are Pelican, with no shared build. Each stands alone:
```sh
cd flux.vision # or tobias.raayoni-last.com, or randogoth.com
uv run --quiet --with pelican --with markdown -- pelican content -o output -s pelicanconf.py
```
Each directory has its own README covering its theme, its taxonomy and the traps specific to it.
| | articles | theme | notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| `flux.vision/` | 90 | `flux` | recovered from the Wayback Machine; closed, maintained not updated |
| `tobias.raayoni-last.com/` | 97 | `raayoni` | grid of tiles, light and dark |
| `randogoth.com/` | 41 | `bbs` | an ANSI bulletin board, 80 columns; `mc-pelican` is the fallback |
## Deployment
Built and served on `bucur`. A push triggers a webhook that builds the changed site and rsyncs it
into place. Content does not trigger a system activation: the site derivations are flake packages,
so a typo costs a Pelican run rather than a `nixos-rebuild switch`.
## Shared conventions
- **No em dashes.** Commas, colons, full stops or `·`.
- **Flat slugs.** `{slug}.html` on all three. Categories get reworked; slugs should not move.
- **No `nl2br`.** The recovered bodies are hard wrapped at about 70 characters, so it turns every
source line into a forced break. This has been fixed twice; do not add it back.
- **Lost images are handled at build time,** not in the browser. The references stay in the Markdown
because the reference records what was there; `plugins/lostimages.py` strips them from the output.
- **Check the built output, not the source.** Several bugs here were invisible at a glance and
obvious to a counter: forced line breaks that fell near the natural wrap, box drawing a column
short, a config change that silently emptied every hotkey.
## The working material
The inventory, the recovery pipelines, the pruned articles, the source archives and `REFACTOR.md`
live outside this repo, at `/mnt/data/Backup/sites-restructure-2026-10-05/`. A clone is the three
sites, not the argument that produced them.
That backup is worth keeping: the sort is not reproducible from the sites alone. `inventory.tsv`
records why each of 266 articles went where it did, and `_pruned/` is the only record of what was
taken out.

# flux.vision, Kiritan Flux
The VJ and media-art career, 2003-2021, under the name **Kiritan Flux**. A closed body of work:
maintained, not updated. See `REFACTOR.md` §B in the working material.
Recovered from the Wayback Machine, since no local copy survived (checked and ruled out on the
`cargo` backup SSD). 89 articles and 232 images are in; the date-bounded CDX query and the
`curl -sL` gotcha are documented in `REFACTOR.md` §B.
Only the media-arts half lives here. Client and commercial credits went to
`../tobias.raayoni-last.com/`.
## Building
```sh
uv run --quiet --with pelican --with markdown -- pelican content -o output -s pelicanconf.py
```
`pelicanconf.py` reproduces the original URL scheme exactly, so archived and inbound links resolve
rather than 404: flat `{slug}.html` articles, `/section/`, `/tag/`, `/info/`.
## Sections
veejay 28 · performance 18 · installation 18 · blog 15 · curation 9 · sound 1
`blog` is excluded from the work listings (`WORK_EXCLUDE`) and has its own nav item, because those
entries are reports and essays rather than engagements.
`kiritanflux.md` publishes as `/signing-off.html`, since Pelican derives the slug from the title.
It is the closing post and carries the full 114-entry gig history, 2003 to 2021, across 11
countries.
## Plugins
| Plugin | Does |
|---|---|
| `tileweight.py` | sizes each timeline tile from the entry itself: images, video, word count |
| `lostimages.py` | drops `<img>` and wrapping links whose file did not survive, leaving a comment naming it |
| `assetcheck.py` | flags `Thumb:`/`Background:` whose file is missing, so templates render a typographic card |
`assetcheck.py` is shared from `../tobias.raayoni-last.com/plugins/`.
## What did not survive
78 images are gone for good and Wayback holds no capture of them: 15 camera originals on an offline
drive, 16 client logos, 21 `Bild-NN.png` screenshots, and the rest one-offs. The Markdown keeps the
original references, because the reference records what was there. 19 tiles therefore show static
rather than a thumbnail, and 22 in-article images are stripped at build time.
`content/images/` is empty, so anything referencing `/images/` is among the losses.
## Theme notes
Three layout traps, all of which fail silently:
- The gutter must not use `vw`. `overflow-y: scroll` always shows a scrollbar, `vw` counts it, and
anything full-bleed then overflows by the scrollbar width and the page scrolls sideways.
- Direct children of `.container` must set padding with the `-top`/`-bottom` longhand. A `padding:`
shorthand has the same specificity as the gutter rule and comes later in the file, so it resets
the gutter to zero and text sits flush against the screen edge.
- The nav panel occupies one corner, so it gets a lane on one side only. Symmetric gutters large
enough for the panel crush the column at tablet widths.

Title: A night with Celeste

*(a personal report by Kiritan Flux, photos by Ilan Katin)*
Just having a faint idea that there was supposed to be something going
on this friday evening i checked the outsourced part of
my permanently damaged brain memory. the digital cloud reminded me of
the [Celeste prize](http://www.celesteprize.com/ "Celeste Prize 2009")
final party event and I suddenly got really excited about going there.
Looking at the menubar clock I realized I had only half an hour of time
before it would start, so I threw a post about it into the VB feed,
dropped all my other ongoing procrastination tasks, grabbed my photo
camera and left.
<!-- PELICAN_BEGIN_SUMMARY -->Sipping a nice cold bottle of czech beer I walked to the gigantic
industrial compound of the old AEG factory in Wedding, scanning the dark
area for hints about Celeste. I strayed around the red brick and rusty
metal complex, totally lost - until a naturally wary, androgynous, and
faceless security guard popped up from the shadows wanting to know my
intentions. I explained myself and the guard dutifully pointed me into
the right direction. On the way, I realized I forgot to bring the CF
card for my camera at my office...<!-- PELICAN_END_SUMMARY -->
Eventually I found the entrance and met Ilan in front, who seemed like
he'd stayed there already for a (much too) long time. We had a nice chat
and a few overpriced Becks, and stood there glancing over the crowd of
usual suspects to expect at this type of event: new-berliner americans,
hipsters, arty geeks and showoff-intellectuals sipping their white wines
and puffing weed. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere. A previously leaked
but never confirmed rumour turned out to be true: epic berlin electro
joint venture [Moderat](http://www.bpitchcontrol.de/Moderat/ "Moderat")
did a free 20min concert for the visuals of the first contestant
[Pfadfinderei](http://www.pfadfinderei.com/ "Pfadfinderei"). They
performed in the usual static in-line Kraftwerk style choreography, but
peppered with britpop fashion and Pet-Shop-Boys-hat and even some
head-nodding and hip-twisting in between.
There's not much say about
[Pfadfinderei](http://www.pfadfinderei.com/ "Pfadfinderei") that's
really new or revolutionary. The same perfect and shiny pro aestetics as
ever, clip-shooting as always and with some additional RGB lights on the
triple head installation, they did a nice show matching the sound of
[Moderat](http://moderat.fm "Moderat") quite well. But after 10 minutes
of watching we left the room to check out [the
fish](http://www.celesteprize.com/artwork/ido:30052/ "Quintetto") which
was actually much more entertaining: five real goldfish named after five
different avantgarde music composers, floating in five narrow plexiglass
tanks tracked by a camera and generating music - really cool!!
![](/library/3955534551_93b259f366.jpg)
[Moderat](http://moderat.fm "Moderat") was finished when we returned to
the main stage area, so we spent the break socialising with some other
artists who had arrived. Dr. Nojoke and Ray Beams who had participated
at the Celeste competition and some VB family members: jorgk, e, lucas +
christiane, georgina + felix, yagama, bram + anneke. Thenkfully the
entertainment factor of the event went up to a higher level, hearing
weird stories about lost wallets and smashed car windows, the latest
gossip and some rants and rumours about Celeste.
The second performance was [Solitude by
Dome](http://www.celesteprize.com/artwork/ido:27879/ "Solitude"), which
started off a bit too noizy and slightly boring but ended up as a really
amazing audiovisual performance. A guy who looked like he dropped out of
a sci-fi martial arts manga, making weird sounds with natural objects
inside and outside of a small glass terrarium and a violin bow playing
on other objects, along with beautiful black and white videos of
desolated industrial places and flocks of birds circling above and
around run down factory towers. When the performance ended it left the
audience in an intense moment of contemplation that suddenly switched to
roaring applause.
![](/library/3956318196_bcea1e4466.jpg)
[Celeste
Motus](http://www.celesteprize.com/artwork/ido:30686/ "Celeste Motus")
was the third piece by the italian artist group abstract birds - a calm
and really beautiful three parts opus of generative vvvv color bliss and
live played instruments. One of the nicest generative and sound reactive
artworks i've seen for a while.
![](/library/3956320962_a31d4d3c4a.jpg)
My absolute favorite performance was [Mutazioni by Gianluca
Beccary](http://www.celesteprize.com/artwork/ido:23901/ "Mutazioni"), a
disturbing audiovisual horror trip through a dark and mystical version
of Italy's beaches, river valleys and epic venetian theatres occupied by
naked swine men, wildly dancing fauns, occult monks with pale bird masks
and accompanied by distorted live cello music and glitchy ambient noise.
Truly amazing video footage of highly talented and well casted actors,
incredible cinematography and great music added up to a truly memorable
nightmare experience.
http://vimeo.com/4782590
The final set was [L C M [les champs magnétiques] by Otolab dies
Orgone](http://www.celesteprize.com/artwork/ido:29863/ "LCM"),
stunningly loud and all black and white, two artists apparetly hooked on
speed or ketamines making noise on steroids and running ~~a vvvv~~ *an
isadora* patch on crack. It was all high quality generative mayhem, but
in my opinion not really worth winning the top 1 celecte prize in the
live media category - but oh well - maybe everyone who voted for them
was on PCP or heroin too, so it kinda makes sense.
http://vimeo.com/5463100
After some more socializing, shooting cherry tomatos around the
exhibition room with an air pressure gun and talking with friends, I was
happy when jorgk eventually wanted to leave and gave me a ride back home
to xberg.

Title: a VJ's joy of using PC - part 1

Thumb: /library/Man-Shoots-Daughters-Laptop-Over-Facebook.jpg
In my previous
post
i elaborated on my recent decision to switch from Mac to PC. Such
drastic changes of course influence my work in various ways. Some things
were expected, others surprised me. Of course i was aware of obvious
things like suddenly having to deal with graphic card driver settings,
not being able to use my beloved Mac VJ software
([VDMX](http://vidvox.net)) anymore and losing out on technologies like
[syphon](http://syphon.v002.info).
...then I got reminded of what it's like, having to work on a Windows
PC...<!--more-->
Using a windows machine, veejays get a completely different choice of
software than in the Mac world. I decided to use
[Resolume](http://resolume.com), because I like the interface and the
overall look and feel of it. I tried [Arkaos
GrandVJ](https://www.arkaos.net) and it just didn't feel right. I tried
[Livid Cell](http://www.lividinstruments.com/software_cell.php) and
closed it after a minute.
[vimeo]https://vimeo.com/28227392[/vimeo]
The Resolume setup was straight forward and it works incredibly fast on
my machine...until i tried mapping my MIDI controller to the software...
WTF \#1: I connected my [M-Audio Trigger
Finger](http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep05/articles/triggerfinger.htm)
that had served me so well in the last years to the computer, expecting
it to work rightaway. Error message: "the USB device cannot be
recognised." Fine - i am on Windows 8 and it's a fairly dated
controller, so the system probably just wants drivers. I found the
drivers on their website, installed them - no result, same error. I
started plugging the Trigger Finger to all the USB ports I have,
including the one on the side of my attached USB Apple keyboard -
and....what? Windows detected it and installed the drivers
automatically! But i got another error message: not enough power on the
USB port. I plugged it back directly into the computer - "device not
detected." Eventually i plugged a small USB hub and attached the Trigger
Finger to that - and it works! WTF? On Windows 7 and 8 it doesn't work
plugged directly, but only via a hub. Does anyone have a logic
explanation for that?
![](/library/Man-Shoots-Daughters-Laptop-Over-Facebook.jpg "Man Shoots Daughters Laptop Over Facebook")
WTF \#2: Resolume saw my MIDI controller, so i put it in MIDI mapping
mode to assign my knobs and buttons to different functions. It worked on
two buttons and then Resolume just froze. I tried it over and over, with
several restarts, but it always froze. I even tried it with Resolume 3
and with a cracked Resolume 4 Arena version - same thing. In fact, with
any kind of mapping mode enabled, Resolume dies. I was lost. I even
tried to edit the XML files by hand to assign MIDI to Resolume, but I
stopped, because that couldn't be the solution. I started to think about
32bit Software vs. 64bit Operating System. Maybe that's it! Or maybe
it's just Windows 8. I rummaged through my shelves to find a Windows 7
Ultimate installation CD and went through the whole setup process on a
secondary partition. After all the painful driver installations for my
ThinkPad were done, i installed Resolume 4. I entered MIDI mapping mode
and YESS!!! it works..........for a minute, then it freezes. Same
problem. I figured it must be my hardware. The most probable thing might
be the [NVIDIA Optimus](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_Optimus)
switchable GPU magic. I rebooted, force switched the notebook in BIOS to
only use the [NVIDIA
K2000M](http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Quadro-K2000M.76893.0.html)
adapter, restarted twice until Windows understood that the intel onboard
HD graphics adapter is gone, and tried again in Resolume. BAM! It all
works fine and smoothly now. Including being able to map my MIDI...
...it just took around 7 or 8 hours to just connect a fucking MIDI
controller to my computer and map it to my software. SRSLY????? It would
have taken 4 to 5 minutes on my Mac...............but let's not think
about that.
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07So\_lJQyqw[/youtube]
...at least i learned something about my system! priceless!

I was super nervous about having to use my new
Thinkpad
with a new operating system and a new VJ software which I am not used to
right at the first huge gig in the burning summer sun, covered with

...but I have to say: I am proud of my black monster! It didn't only
survive the outdoor rave, the system and the software were rock solid
throughout the full 10 hour set. Maximum CPU load was around 20%, RAM
usage around 14% and the maximum average core temperature was around
79°C - in average around 70°C. Amazing!
I guess I should push the baby harder next time...

The Goethe Institut invited me to a ten day trip to Moldova and Ukraine as part of their program to support alternative art spaces in eastern Europe.
I was invited by the newly opened alternative art space #Adapter in Kremenchuk to stay there for three days as a mini residency and develop a video installation.
![Adapter](/images/adapter_01.jpg)
Besides doing an impromptu live visual performance at the opening night I developed a permanent installation object with practical value for the art space. Together with the help of Eugene Dmitriev, Pascha of PXM, Maxim Zveroboy, Maria Hildenbrandt, and Antony Chupin we built a furniture object resembling an "adapter" with a video screen to display a loop with the space's logo. Ideas for improvement were collected and in the future the adapter installation will host a Raspberry Pi with a custom software to display any kind of information, like the art space's upcoming program, and things like that.

I did one of my dérive performances that solely consisted of video footage that was shot in Auroville by [Tlalit Segal Raayoni](http://tlal.it) and myself just the day before the performance, while electroacoustic artist [Chloé Sanchez](http://chloe-sanchez.weebly.com) created a soundscape from her collection of audio recordings captured in Auroville over the past years. We met for the first time only on the day of the performance, so we did it without any rehearsals! The whole production and idea came from [Christoph](http://brainfever.in).

Summary: Various performances for the electro arts festival in Cluj-Napoca, RO together with Alex Halka and others.
The goal of my performance at "Clujotronic" in the city of Cluj-Napoca in Romania was to create an audiovisual performance within 48 hours together with a Romanian musician I had never met before - and my own dogma to make it even harder for myself: only with video material shot in Cluj...
Many thanks to the amazing Alex Halka - it was a very inspiring and synergetic collaboration. Thanks a lot to the CLUJOTRONIC team for the idea and for making this festival: Fabian, Alexandra, Liliana and Ildiko vom Deutsches Kulturzentrum Klausenburg, the Institut Francais, Razvan and his great tech support crew, VJ PLUS[+], Nerk/Kirn, Edouard & Matthieu, 7th Sphere Project.

For this years Clujotronic festival I wanted to do something completely different than in the years before: a projection into the audience through a room filled with fog. My aim was to play with the depth of the space instead of having video playing on a flat surface. The content consisted exclusively of magical and alchemical symbols which suited the dark ambient techno live-set of *Alex Halka* and *Vlaicu Golcea*.
Thanks to Tofa, Alexandra Muresan, Marius Neag for the photos!

Background: /library/clujotronic-2021.jpg

With: Alex Halka, Matthieu Tercieux
Summary: Infected Hardware, an interactive AV mapping piece built with Alex Halka and Matthieu Tercieux for the festival's tenth anniversary.
For its tenth edition Clujotronic brought back three artists from the festival's own
history: Alex Halka from Romania, Matthieu Tercieux from France, and myself. The brief was
open, which is to say there was not one. We were asked to make something together that none
of us would have made alone.
What came out of it was *Infected Hardware*, an interactive audiovisual mapping piece in the
courtyard of the Cluj Art Museum. For three evenings the courtyard worked as an experimental
laboratory rather than a stage: the facade carried the projection, the audience could act on
it, and the three of us ran it live.
> *"Three of the artists who shaped the festival's history, Alex Halka (RO), Kiritan Flux (DE)
> and Matthieu Tercieux (FR), answered the challenge of creating an original interactive
> digital art project together. That is how Infected Hardware came about."*
That is the organisers' own description, translated from the
[Romanian](https://institutfrancais.ro/cluj-napoca/clujotronic-2021-2/), and it is fairly
close to how it felt.
I had played Clujotronic in 2014, 2015 and 2016, every time with Alex. The festival has a
habit of putting people in a room to see what happens, which is how the first of those
started: 48 hours to build an audiovisual set with a musician I had never met. Ten years on,
the method had not changed.

Title: Lost in Crystal Canyons
Date: 2017-03-20 21:00

Summary: Debut digital album release of a deep listening ambient drone meditation on cyberpunk
<iframe style="width: 700px; height: 340px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1688229791/size=large/bgcol=333333/linkcol=ffffff/artwork=small/transparent=true/" seamless></iframe>
Debut digital [album release](https://lastunit.bandcamp.com/album/lost-in-crystal-canyons) of a deep listening ambient drone meditation on cyberpunk called "Lost in Crystal Canyons" under my alias for audio works, "Last Unit"
All sounds used in this [album](https://lastunit.bandcamp.com/album/lost-in-crystal-canyons) were recorded with a special coil microphone, capturing the naturally inaudible electromagnetic emissions of the mainboard and componentes of a dual CPU Supermicro rack server.
<div class="para" style="height: 20em; background-image: url(/images/supermicro.jpg)"></div>
> The humming beneath the physical matter. Unified Field. The server as a neuron. Cyberspace/mind emerging from electrified matter/brain which itself is a manifestation of energy/consciousness.
The recordings were resampled, mixed and mangled with a Yamaha MT-120 multitrack cassette recorder, a Roland SP-404SX sampler and a bunch of stompboxes, most prominently a Jomox T-Resonator. None of the tracks were arranged, edited or mastered on a computer but only performed live by Last Unit.
![instruments](/images/sp404.jpg)
<div class="para" style="height: 10em; background-image: url(/images/crystal.jpg)"></div>
> "All that is visible must grow beyond itself, and extend into the realm of the invisible." (TRON)
The obvious medium for the final work was an electromagnetic one. In addition to the digital album available on Bandcamp I produced a limited edition of 20 numbered low-bias ferric cassette tapes for extra background hiss and subtle flutter backing up the drones. It includes the two bonus tracks "Pearly I/O" and "Sas Nam" not available on the digital album. The tape comes with a standard case and 160g/m² j-card with photographs, stickers and a signed note.

I was invited by the DokfestLounge to play at their Opening Party. DokfestLounge is the audiovisual arts side-festival of the DOKFest film-festival in Kassel. As a tribute to the film-festival's focus on documentaries I decided to do a "dérive" performance. During the day I drifted aimlessly through the city of Kassel and recorded subjective moments and impressions on the way. All and only this material was mixed and edited live during the night's performance to the music of Kool Mister DJ.
Thanks to Claire and Jan of DokfestLounge Kassel for the invitation and local support.
Here are some impressions of the performance, filmed and edited by Claire Fristot:

*[eff-eff], [da-bl eff]* - visual performers group pseudonym. joint venture of the video artists [**fRED**](http://visualberlin.org/artist/fRED) and **Kiritan Flux** from Berlin. Both share a cranky affinity towards pixilated and pixelated substance and appearance. fRED and Flux complement each other in their perception of the need to explore asetetic frontiers, experiment with geek technologies and actively get involved in the vj scene, pushing it towards a more cooperative self-conception.
![](/library/clowns.jpg)
=ff= are dealing with the issue of communication between the visual artist and the obsever, trying to extract the VJ’s position from being a stark and stiff nerd gazing at a laptop screen in a dark corner of the stage towards a respected appearance as visual performer. The =ff= method to achieve this is presenting an exaggerated self glorification withing the narrative content of the shown short-films on screen and on stage at the same time.
![](/library/ffbots_ff_dance.jpg)
The presented stories of a =ff= narrative ego performance consist mainly of wild documentaries of their travel journeys, filmed and produced till the last second before their presentation. Not until they are driectly inside the environment of their planned presentation, =ff= equip themselves with odd costumes, film each other within the foreign set of their surrounding and spontaneously interweave fictional actions and short narratives. The shots work without sound, without script and without editing and they represent a radically egocentric type of video journalism in the subversive tradition of “gonzo” pioneer Hunter S. Thompson. Thompson once stated, that “true gonzo reporting needs the talents of a master journalist, the eye of an artist/photographer and the heavy balls of an actor. […] Probably the closest analogy to the ideal would be a film director/producer who writes his own scripts, does his own camera work and somehow manages to film himself in action, as the protagonist or at least a main character.” =ff= push it even a step further and appear as exclusive presentators of their films - but in the role of the gonzo protagonists of their nonlinear video documentaries. Every presentation represents a unique premiere, because the cutting happens in real-time and is irreproducable in its momentary aestetics.
![](/library/1284725706_0065c877a1.jpg)
Thus, =ff= succeed in merging all the different paradigms known under the abbreviation “VJ”. Besides their appearance as gonzo “Video-Journalists”, they are cheeky “video jockeys” of the MTV generation, who present their self-made music clips to the public, and at the same time they eventually are ordinary “Visual Jockeys” from the illustrious underground club culture of Berlin, who can do their run-of-the-mill nerdcore flicker VJ standard program as well.

Title: Flimmerkiste #2 Wildscreening
Date: 2009-05-29 13:36
Category: blog
Author: Kiritan Flux
Slug: flimmerkiste-2-wildscreening
Yesterday I had the honor to participate at the second edition of
'Flimmerkiste', the regional VJ gathering in Mannheim. The meeting place
was the lounge area of Zeitraumexit close to the industrial harbor of
Mannheim, the same location where last year's [B-Seite VJ
festival](http://jetztkultur.de/bseite/de+en/ "B-Seite") took place. The
round of attendees was small but select:
[Pixelschubser](http://www.benjaminjantzen.de/ "VJ Pixelschubser"), [VJ
Tenner](http://www.vjtenner.com/ "VJ Tenner"),
[TimVis](http://timvis.de/ "VJ TimVis") and myself among a small group
of curious young people from the national theater.
![dscn0016](http://visualberlin.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/dscn0016-492x369.jpg "dscn0016")
The formal part of the meeting was rather short - i felt a bit
flattered, receiving a free beer to celebrate the ['5 years of
flux'](http://blog.kiritanflux.de/2009/05/28/5-years-of-flux/ "5 years of flux")
anniversary - so I hoped we would quickly continue to the next point:
AVIT Networking. We talked a bit about the planned issues and read
through some text but eventually Pixelschubser decided to write down
some info text about B-Seite at some point later.
![p1010750](http://visualberlin.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/p1010750-492x328.jpg "p1010750")
Finally we proceeded to the most fun part of the evening: guerilla
wildscreening in downtown Mannheim. Armed with a gasoline electricity
generator, a nice 5000 ANSI projector, manfrotto tripod, V4 and laptops
we walked through the Kreuzberg'ish 'Jungbusch' area towards the center
marketplace where the huge city hall is located.
![p1010789](http://visualberlin.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/p1010789-492x276.jpg "p1010789")
Equipment was set up quickly and we had a lot of fun, doing spontaneous
mapping masks, jamming along, spreading Flimmerkiste flyers to curious
bystanders. The cops came twice, but rather because of curiosity than
maintenance of public order. Timing was perfect, because when the VJs
really started to get groovy, the illumination of the city hall got
switched off and we had the whole building just for ourselves.

*go to [http://vimeo.com/4898730](http://vimeo.com/4898730 "vimeo") for
Full HD*
The evening in Mannheim was a lot of inspiration and fun and I was glad
to be part of it. Frankly, the VJs around here seem a lot more
spontaneous and kicking than most of us guys in Berlin - since we
planned such a guerilla projection night forever without ever doing it.

Title: Guter VJ, schlechter VJ - das ewige Thema
Date: 2009-03-06 11:12
Category: blog
Author: Kiritan Flux
Tags: vjism, deutsch
Slug: guter-vj-schlechter-vj
<!-- PELICAN_END_SUMMARY -->
Cunningham's genialen [Star Wars
könne, sei man gut.

The live modular techno duo [*#INSTANTBONER*](http://instantboner.wtf) invited me to support them at the *Performance and Visual Artist Club Festival* at Burg Schnabel & Birgit und Bier in Berlin. I created and set up an installation based on stacking several CRT TV monitors into a pyramid and use that as the only light-source of the stage in a room filled with fog. The content shown consisted of impromptu visuals performed live.

The live modular techno duo #INSTANTBONER, later #INSTANT, invited me to jam along with them in their studio. The duo is Johannes Steyer and Matthias Millhoff. I use only volatile clips recorded from a USB microscope / macro-camera into a custom *Max/Jitter* patch that loops and transmits them via *Spout* to my VJ Software for further processing.
Besides a few jams I also used this method for live-performances.

I was invited by the *Jewish Cultural Festival Kraków* to develop and perform an audiovisual show together with Israeli musician *Ori Alboher*. The topic of the festival was *Jerusalem*. I decided to do one of my [dérive video performances](http://flux.vision/tag/derive.html). [Tlalit](http://tlal.it) and I travelled to the city of *Jerusalem* and we both filmed impressions of the street-life, architecture and hidden places. Tlalit grew up there, so she knew many great areas I could have not found by myself.
At the festival in *Kraków* I used only that material for the songs played by *Ori* during our concert. It was a multi-screen presentation with half transparent screens.
All filmed video material was donated to the festival for free use under a *Creative Commons* license and was re-used by [Elektro Moon Vision](http://elektromoon.co.nr) for several projections around the festival.

Title: Signing Off
Date: 2021-12-01
Category: performance
Summary: Closing out the live visuals career as 'Kiritan Flux'
Under the nom de guerre of "Kiritan Flux" I performed as a live visual artist and VJ in Berlin and beyond from 2003 until 2021. The work ranged from visual shows at prominent techno events such as Time Warp or Sonus Festival to more conceptual live-cinema performances built for one room and one night.
It did not start as a career. For years it ran alongside regular jobs in web, e-learning and video production, on nights and weekends, until at some point the proportions reversed and it became the thing I actually did.
> *flux* [flûks], n. Lat. _fluxus_, _fluo_, _fluxi_.
> 1. The act of flowing; the motion or passing of a fluid.
> 2. The moving or passing of any thing in continued succession.

![MOAM](/images/moam_1.jpg)
The last VJ show was Connect in Düsseldorf, September 2019. Then the venues closed. By the time they opened again I had a day job and a kid who got up at seven, and I was done with nights that ended at eight in the morning. I made one exception: ten years of Clujotronic, October 2021. I could never say no to that team, or to the artists they put me with.
So this is an archive rather than a portfolio. It is closed and I am not taking bookings. Whether it stays closed I honestly do not know. This whole thing started as a sideline to a day job, so I have stopped making predictions about it.

Title: Kurtág - Reflections Through Conduction
Date: 2016-03-08 21:00
Category: performance
Slug: kurtag-reflections
Summary: Audiovisual improvisation with Tlalit and Jean-Paul Bourelly's Spontaneous Arkestra

The world of contemporary music celebrated the 90th birthday of Hungarian composer [György Kurtág](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/György_Kurtág). Interpreting this influential oeuvre of contemporary classical music, the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin dedicated a special event to Kurtág on 8 March 2016, presenting two concerts. One of them was a live concert of The Spontaneous Arkestra led by the legendary fusion musician, composer and conceptualist [Jean-Paul Bourelly](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Paul_Bourelly) through the use of Conduction to command the orchestra and reflect on Kurtág's works. By its nature, Conduction method liberates both conductor and musicians from the traditional boundaries of musical rules, habits and conventions, making the collaboration more spontaneous and surprising the audience with unexpected turns.
[Tlalit](http://tlal.it) and I did a visual improvisation for the concert. The used material consisted only of macro-videography of the stage and instruments of the musicians shot during the rehearsals the day before by Tlalit. This base material was modified and mixed live by me and masked with music inspired live drawings with [Alchemy](http://al.chemy.org) by Tlalit.
