- title: "Probing the Past: A Media Archaeology of Handmade Electronic Sound"
artist: Derek Holzer
artist_url: http://macumbista.net/
description: "Derek Holzer (1972) is an American instrument builder and sound artist based in Berlin DE, whose current interests include DIY analog electronics, the relationship between sound + space, media archaeology and the meeting points of electroacoustic, noise, improv and extreme music. He has performed live, taught workshops and created scores of unique instruments and installations since 2002 across Europe, North and South America, and New Zealand.
The utopias of electronic sound have hardly changed in its hundred-year history. We still want to imitate existing instruments, create sounds which have never been heard before and realize complex compositions without the need of an orchestra. It is only the tools which have become more complex. But there are dystopias as well, which come especially from using tools designed around other peoples way of creating sound, rather than your own. Instrument builder, teacher and performer Derek Holzer of Macumbista.net will discuss the inspiration of some of the pioneers of 20th Century electronic sound as springboards to some of his own creations, which the audience will have a chance to explore following the talk."

- title: "Photochemical Intiatives"
artist: Kevin Rice
artist_url: http://processreversal.org/
description: "Process Reversal is a U.S. based collective which seeks to preserve celluloid film practices through research, resource development, and film productions focused on advancing the aesthetics and technology of the medium itself. In this sense, the times that we are facing with celluloid today are in fact the most exciting opportunities in the history of the medium — as the industry collapses all around us, we are being left with a chance to re-invent the medium in an image that was neither intended nor desired by the commercialism of the medium; one that explores new ways of seeing, new ways of hearing, and new ways of speaking about film.
Kevin Rice, a member of Process Reversal, will be presenting on behalf of the collective. He is a self described film archivist whose practice focuses on the study of photochemical theories, the development of lab resources for filmmakers, and the documentation of various darkroom odysseys on motion picture film. The talk will expose his perspectives on contemporary film practices today, as well as the artist run film lab community, by discussing the formation, development, and infinite struggles of their collective, Process Reversal. In this, he will be sharing several works from members of the collective, including his own, and discussing their process and how it has evolved since the formation of our group. Along the way, he will explain several aspects of the photo-chemical process in film making and attempt to perform a live demonstration of a technique or two."

Such as drawing machines which is not perfectly controlled by numbers, 3D printed sculpture and garment which uses errors and imperfectness of system intentionally. Predicting the future but not forgetting critical point of view for technology."

- title: Privacy and online freedom of expression.
artist: Ioann Maria
artist_url: http://ioannmaria.com/
description: "This Session will attempt an open discussion that addresses issues of privacy and online freedom of expression.
We want to discuss if and why privacy matters. How does that relate to contemporary artists and the tools they (we) are using? Is there a space for a political statement? How much strength does artistic expression have in the cyberworld? What are the chances and responsibilities of artists confronted with the omnipresent power- and control-structures in the wake of the revelations of Edward Snowden and other whistleblowers."
